Ausgabe# has been released since June 2011 as a 'personal publication' by the artist Max Leiß. In most cases, these are individual pieces; 31 issues of Ausgabe# have appeared at irregular intervals.
[read more] Nost of them use the folders from the Masterpieces of Art series, which the artist requisitioned by collaging and cutting out in order to then collect various materials such as prints, photographs, copies, text fragments or even contributions from other artists. All the elements used form a sculptural inventory and vocabulary that future editions of Ausgabe# can draw on and reuse. Ausgabe# thus becomes a field of artistic experimentation in which Leiß can bring his ideas and thoughts together physically and visually in order to create new connections through the interplay of fragments. At first glance, what is revealed to the viewer may appear to be a rather chaotic folder of pages. But given time, a space opens up in which it is possible to familiarise oneself with the artist's references and sources and immerse oneself in a game of associations. Ausgabe# is thus to be understood in the truest sense of the word as a gift from the artist to his viewers, inviting them to write their own stories and thoughts and thus representing a truly personal publication.
